Bluesy Alt Country
DAVID JAMES ALLEN
David James Allen’s third solo record The Architect tells
almost a decade’s worth of stories that touch on
politics, making music, love, and the journey he took to
take control of his life. Ranging from bluesy alt-country
to easy sounding folk and country songs, The Architect
was largely recorded live off the floor at Catherine
North Studios in Hamilton, Ontario. Co-produced by
Allen and William D. Crann [Mappe Of, The Trews,
Iskew], there’s a warmth to its sound that mirrors the
community that Allen hopes listeners find in the album.
“Wonderful sounds that hearken to that same creative bag [of]
Nilsson and to later John Lennon [DJA’s music] ... is not steeped
in current indie tropes, [it’s] music that [has] earnest
wonderfully askew poetry delivered with a voice that has it’s
own unique persona..” – American Pancake (U.S.A)
“[When The Demons Come is] a stone cold brilliant album that
absolutely should not become a tiny footnote of, in this case,
Canada and Toronto’s (and even broader) music history.”– 9/10 -
The Spill Magazine (CANADA)
“[When The Demons Come is] ... is a tour de force exploration of
love, loss, religion and spirituality... Full of emotional highs and
lows, that will not leave the listener unmoved.” – The Great Dark
